Learning to be Mom

This week I got a taste of what my life will look like a few years from now! Christa (grade 7) and Victoria (grade 5) were staying with us while their parents were training new missionaries in another part of Tanzania. At the beginning of the week the car broke down. Which is usually not a big problem because there are lots of taxis here–but things are much trickier now with Grace and her car seat! Then Christa got sick, then Gil got sick. So that meant getting up in the middle of the night to take temperatures (we don’t treat fevers lightly here because of the threat of malaria), taking Christa to the doctor, keeping track of who took which medicine when, figuring out how to get Victoria to and from school without a car…whew! I’m respecting my own mom more and more!

Thankfully, after a couple days we were able to borrow a school car, and everyone recovered by the end of the week. Victoria even got her research report on jaguars done on Thursday night, by candlelight because the power was off! We do enjoy having extra kids around, though–and are already ready to start working on our second adoption! (though we have to wait until Grace’s is finalized).

In the midst of all of this, Grace started walking! She is certainly quite proud of herself.
